German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Orders 20 Additional Eurofighter Jets

Announcement Made at ILA Berlin Air Show 2024

Move Part of Effort to Strengthen German Air Force

Berlin, Germany - On the opening day of the ILA Berlin International Aerospace Exhibition, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced an agreement with Airbus Defence and Space for the purchase of 20 additional Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets. The order is part of a broader effort to modernize and strengthen the German Air Force.

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a highly capable multi-role fighter jet that has been in service with the German Air Force since 2003. The aircraft is known for its advanced avionics, weapons systems, and maneuverability.

The new order for 20 Eurofighters is expected to be completed by 2029. The jets will be used to replace aging Tornado fighter jets and to enhance the German Air Force's capabilities in air-to-air and air-to-ground operations.

The announcement of the Eurofighter order was made during the opening ceremony of the ILA Berlin Air Show, which is one of the world's largest aerospace trade exhibitions. The show is taking place from June 5-9, 2024, and features a wide range of aircraft and aerospace technologies.
